The Third Mushroom is written by Jennifer Holmes. It is a continuation for The Fourteenth Goldfish. The book is a Sci-Fi kind of book. It is a very fun book.
The Third Mushroom is about Ellie’s life after her teen grandfather, Melvin, left to explore the world. Her grandfather came back and they both did a science project together. Ellie’s best friend, Raj, asked if Ellie wanted to see a movie with him. She invited an old friend and Melvin with them. Melvin needed to go to the hospital because he grew an appendix. He said that he ate a piece of their science experiment and thought he could regrow a tooth. Ellie went home to see her cat, Jonas, and his friend on the porch. When Jonas tried to walk, his back legs didn’t move. She immediately called Melvin and they took him to the vet. The vet said that Jonas had to go. After Jonas’ death, Ellie got mad at Raj for not coming. A couple of weeks later, Melvin was back to being an old man because their science experiment made people age faster. Melvin ended up living near Ellie’s house. Ellie and Raj forgave each other and decided just to stay friends. Ellie adopts Jonas’ cat friend, which was the neighbor’s cat and everyone is happy.
What I really liked about this book is that when things get weird, a character comes and makes things funny. I really recommend it to people who like Sci-Fi books. My favorite part is when Raj asks Ellie out and Melvin gets into their conversation. But the saddest part that almost made me cry is when they put down Jonas.
